United states national debt

Krishna Garikipati, journalist/editor

The national debt is caused by government spending and the government not having any more money left in the vault. Countries can choose to not pay in case they do not make money but that is rare. The United States uses this money to do stuff that the government does. The amount of interest it pays increases each year and depends on how long it takes the government to pay it back. The united states has something called a debt ceiling where congress puts a limit but it gets raised a lot. Any country that has a growing debt has problems if they don’t pay it back. The United States’ debt is growing because it is a growing country and it needs money to keep growing. The debt of the United States is around 30 trillion dollars and it is still growing. National presence around the situation has increased in the last few years.
