Depp V. Heard

Recently, a court case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has taken over the media. The defamation trial began on April 11, 2022, in Fairfax County, Virginia. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million for defamation. Heard is countersuing $100 million for the same reason.

Amber Laura Heard is an American actress who is best known for her role as Queen Mera in Aquaman and is 36 years old. John Christopher Depp II is an American actor who is best known for his role as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series and is 58 years old. Depp’s lawyers are Camille Vasquez and Ben Chew, while Heard’s lawyer is Elaine Bredehoft. The two celebrities met in 2011 when playing the opposite in The Rum Diary. At this time, Depp had been partners with Vanessa Paradis for fourteen years with two children, and Heard had been dating Tasya Van Ree for four years. They both fell in love and broke up with their partners in 2012. In 2014, Heard was spotted with a ring where they announced their engagement. In 2015, they got married, but shortly after, in 2016, the couple got divorced, and Heard also filed for a restraining order against Depp.

In 2018, Amber Heard wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post claiming that she was a victim of sexual violence. Though she never mentioned Depp by name, it was evident that it was him she was talking about. She also claimed that she was, a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” After this was published, The Sun newspaper mentioned Depp as a “wife-beater.” Depp sued the company, but lost. He is now suing Heard for $50 million for defamation claiming that the op-ed she wrote was only to gain public press and that she was not the victim, but the abuser in the relationship. Heard is countersuing $100 million claiming that she lost more than Depp did. Johnny alleged that Heard had multiple affairs during their marriage, including James Franco and Elon Musk.

There have been multiple major events throughout the Depp and Heard case. One event that went viral throughout social media is the feces on the mattress incident, in which Heard allegedly put her fecal matter on the couple’s bed. Other main events are Johnny Depp’s severed finger, an audio recording where Heard begged Depp not to cut himself, and when Amber Heard called the police after being abused but had no visible injuries.

Latest news from Wednesday, May 25, 2022, Johnny Depp’s former ex-girlfriend, Kate Moss, testified via zoom. In the 1990s, there were rumors that Depp had pushed Moss down the stairs, which she denied. She states “[Johnny] never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs,” (Kate Moss). Heard brought up Moss while testifying on May 5 when she was rehashing a fight that occurred in 2015, where she punched Depp in the face in fear that he would shove Heard’s sister down the stairs. She says she “instantly [thought] of Kate Moss and the stairs” (Amber Heard). The truth of the stairs incident was that Moss had recalled slipping down the stairs at a resort in Jamaica when Depp had run to help her and call for medical attention.

This spiteful trial ended on May 27, 2022, but no conclusion has been reached.  This rocky relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard will continue to uncover secrets about their past and expose their faults.
