Avatar is a 2009 American film written, directed, produced and co-edited by James Cameron. The movie is meant to be set in the mid-22nd century when humans are colonizing Pandora. The production began in 1994, when Cameron wrote an 80-page essay for the film.

It was supposed to take place after the completion of another of Cameron’s films, Titanic. It was planned to be released in 1999, but necessary material was not yet made for what he wanted to do. In 2006, he began developing a screenplay and fictional universe.

Avatar became the highest-grossing film at the time, surpassing Titanic which held those records for twelve years. It remained that way until overtaken by Avengers: Endgame. It is the best-selling video title of zolo in the US and was nominated for nine Academy Awards.

The movie was officially budgeted at $237 million. The cost between $280 and $310 million for production and $150 million for promotion. It premiered in London on December 10, 2009, then it was released in the US on December 18.

If you are an Avatar fan, get ready. Avatar 2 is scheduled to be released next year on December 16, 2022. Avatar 3 is to be released on December 20, 2024.
