You might have heard the name Thomas Jefferson before. He was a spokesman for democracy, was an American Founding Father, and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. He was also the third president of the United States. He was born on April 13th in 1743, and he died on July 4th, 1826. He is also on Mount Rushmore. This is because he was considered as a really good leader.


As a president, he accomplished lots of things. These accomplishments include stabilizing the U.S. economy and defeating pirates from North Africa during the Barbary War. He also doubled the size of the United States by brokering the Louisiana Purchase. He also founded the University of Virginia. Another important accomplishment is him writing the Declaration of Independence.


 “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.”, Says Thomas Jefferson. This quote means that you have to be honest and not lie to be wise. He also once said that, “I’m a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” This quote means that the harder you work, the better people will treat you. Thomas Jefferson was a very good president, and he has inspired many people.


Thomas Jefferson had 9 siblings including an adopted one. Two of his siblings died when they were children. His dad was a lawyer and a planter. He married Martha Jefferson, and he had six children. Only Two of his children survived to adulthood. He died on July 4th, 1826 because of unknown causes. Since he was 83, people think he died of natural causes.
