1. Chicken Nuggets

Our favorite local food item that’s unhealthy but still bought and eaten. The truth is, only 40-50% of the “meat” inside is actually chicken meat. The rest of the nugget is fat, meaning 50-60% of the nugget is all fat, which is why they’re considered unhealthy.

2. Gum

The candy or snack you chew on when you have bad breath, get hungry, or just crave is actually partially made of rubber. That’s right, for the most part, gum is made of artificial flavoring, sugar, and corn syrup, but the texture and size is made from the same material you can find in the tire shop. 

3. Vanilla Flavoring 

Vanilla is often used in cookies, pastries, and sometimes drinks. The vanilla flavoring that you can pick up from your local grocery store is made from the anal glands of beavers. In other words, where their butt is. Beavers often use the sticky liquid to mark their territory but it’s being used as vanilla flavoring for humans today.

4. Gelatin

This one sounds confusing because it’s not an everyday favorite, however, this simple ingredient can be found in Marshmallows, Candy Corn, Peeps, Gummy bears, Fruit snacks, Jello, etc. All of these candies, the ones you can buy from a store, contain gelatin. Gelatin is most known for being in jello but can be found in gummy or soft candy. It’s made from animal collagen, in other words, animal body parts like tendons, ligaments, and bones, etc. 

5. Soda and Juice

“Soda and juice is bad for you” 

For the longest time, our parents and adults around us have been telling us to avoid or cut down these sugary drinks, but why? A common ingredient that can be found in lots of everyday foods and drinks is high fructose corn syrup. It’s a sugary ingredient that’s in a lot of factory produced products and can cause diabetes, high blood pressure, and insulin resistance. 

6. Instant Ramen Noodles

The easy to prepare, cheap, and yummy noodles are bad for you. They can cause a significantly increased risk of metabolic syndrome in women when eaten twice a week, weight gain, liver damage, and increased risk of heart failure. They contain high amounts of sodium that can increase your chances of getting heart diseases.

7. Coffee grounds

Pre-ground coffee sometimes may contain cockroaches. As disgusting as it sounds, sometimes machines aren’t able to process them out so they get roasted and ground up with the coffee beans.

8. Jam

Strawberry jam, grape jam, etc; jams are usually put on toast, bagels, and pastries. However, did you know that it contains an ingredient called Sodium bisulfite that can cause severe asthma?

9. Wine

Although most readers reading this have probably never drank wine before, white wine, rosé, and sparkling wines usually use an ingredient called isinglass. Isinglass is a type of gelatin from fish bladder, it’s used to make wines bright and clear. In red wines, to remove any bitter flavors.

 

All foods have different tastes causing needs for different ingredients, of course, not everything will sound the best but if you try the food, it might change your mind. It’s important to keep in mind what the food you’re eating contains for safety hazards and for your health.
