PS5 vs Xbox X: Which should you get?

PS5 vs. XBOX series X

Many gamers know about the PS5 and the Xbox Series X (shortened to Xbox X). With 2 new consoles out, the gaming community is very excited for the next-gen consoles. The Xbox X released on November 10, and the PS5 released on November 12. Both consoles have extremely fast loading times and the performance completely one-ups their older models. Most players with a console will likely get the better version of theirs, but which one is actually better and worth it?

The Xbox X has a cubed, box shape, and is similar in shape and size to a computer. The Xbox X is a very high-performance console with 1 TB of memory (which is enough to hold 6-8 smartphones worth of memory). The max framerate is 120 fps, which is much higher than the previous model, which had a max fps of 60. Xbox X has a storage capacity of 1 terabyte and a max resolution of 8K. This is obviously very very good in comparison to its previous model, but how good is it compared to the PS5?

The PS5 is a very tall console, standing at 15.4 inches (base not included). It can be stood up or laid down flat. The PS5 has a max fps of 120, like the Xbox. It has less storage than the Xbox X, with 824 GB (1 TB = 1000 GB), and less storage for games, with about 650 available storage for games. The rest of the memory is reserved for other things like operating systems and files.

One of the best features of the PS5 is the new, DualSense controller. The haptic feedback replaces the rumbling of the old controllers, and instead of vibrating in your hand, the controller will simulate more effects like a gun’s recoil or a waterfall. The adaptive triggers let you feel different things as you press them, such as pulling a bowstring back. Additionally, the controller now comes with a built-in microphone, so you don’t have to use a wireless headset or plug in a mic, but you can still do those things. The Xbox X does not have an exclusive controller, but any controller from recent Xbox consoles will be compatible, whereas the PS5’s new controller won’t work with other PS consoles and vice versa.

The PS5 was a few exclusive games, the most popular one being Spider-man: Miles Morales, which is the sequel to the game Spider-man. Instead of Peter being the protagonist, its Miles Morales. Xbox X doesn’t have that many exclusive games, but one of the most hyped games coming to Xbox consoles and PC is Halo Infinite, which is coming out sometime this year.

What are the cons of each console? Well, the PS5 is only backward compatible with the PS4, whereas the Xbox X is backward compatible with every Xbox console (meaning that games from past consoles can be played with the new consoles). The PS5 is a massive console, which can be laid flat or stood up to a towering 15.4 inches. This console will require a lot of space, but it is smaller than the PS5.

So which console should you get? It depends on what you like, what you’ve owned, and how much space you have. Most people who own a previous model of the Xbox will probably get the Xbox X, and most people with a PS4 will get PS5.
