The NBA Draft is where the top International League Players and the Best College Basketball Players make the next step in going to the NBA. This year because of Covid-19, the NBA Draft was supposed to be held on June 25th 2020 but it was postponed to November 18th 2020. The most hyped players were Lamelo Ball, James Wiseman, and Anthony Edwards. There are some very talented players in this draft class and it’s going to be fun seeing how they do in the NBA. Will they thrive or will they be a draft bust? We will have to find out. Here are the top 10 picks of the 2020 NBA Draft.

1st Pick: Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards is a shooting guard and was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the number one pick. He played for Georgia in college and he is 6 foot, 5 inches. Last season he averaged 19.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

2nd Pick: James Wiseman

James Wiseman plays the center position and the Golden State Warriors acquired him with the second pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He played for Memphis in college and is 7 feet and 1 inch. Last college season he averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game.

3rd Pick: Lamelo Ball

Lamelo Ball is a point guard and was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the third pick in the NBA Draft. He played for the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League (NBL) and is 6 foot, 7 inches. He averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game last season.

4th Pick: Patrick Williams

A small forward in Patrick Wiliams was drafted with the fourth pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 2020 NBA Draft. He played for Florida State in College and is 6 foot, 8 inches. Last college season he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1 assist per game.

5th Pick: Isaac Okoro 

Isaac Okoro is a small forward and was collected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the fifth pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He played for Auburn in college and is 6 foot, 6 inches. Last season he averaged 12.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

6th Pick: Onyeka Okongwu

In the 2020 NBA Draft,  Onyeka Okongwu, who plays the power forward position, was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks. Before the NBA he played for USC and is 6 feet, 9 inches. Last season he averaged 16.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

7th Pick: Killian Hayes

Killian Hayes played for Ratiopharm which is a team in the Basketball Bundesliga. He was drafted with the seventh pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons and is 6 feet, 5 inches. He plays the point guard position and last season he averaged 12.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.

 

8th Pick: Obi Toppin

Obi Toppin is a power forward and was drafted eighth by the New York Knicks in the 2020 NBA Draft. He played for Dayton in College and is 6 feet, 10 inches tall. Last season he averaged 20 points, 2.2 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game.

 

9th Pick: Deni Avdija

Deni Avdija is an international basketball player and played for the Maccabi Tel Aviv of the Israeli Basketball League. He was drafted 9th overall by the Washington Wizards. He is 6 feet, 9 inches and plays the small forward position. During the 2019-2020 season of the Euroleague he averaged 4.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He used to play in the Israeli Basketball League and averaged better stats but in the Euroleague he averaged the stats above.

 

10th Pick: Jalen Smith

Jalen Smith was picked by the Phoenix Suns with the ninth overall pick and played for Maryland in College. He is 6 feet 10 inches and plays the power forward Position. Last year in college he averaged about 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. 

 

This year’s NBA Draft was weird but the players this year were very hyped. We’ll see how they do in the most competitive basketball league in the world, the NBA. Who knows? James Wiseman might bring the Warriors back to fame, or the Warriors could trade him. This is just one of the examples of what a team could do with a newly drafted player. We’ll see how this ends up in the 2020-2021 NBA Season.
