Colin Kaepernick was an American football player until 2016 and is now a black activist. Colin was the 36th pick in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. Colin is mainly remembered for taking a knee during the national anthem but people forget the 12000 passing yards and 2300 rushing yards he had. Kaepernick went to the University of Nevada in college. In college, Kaepernick was amazing and still has records that stand today. In the first five seasons, Kaepernick seemed like a great talent. He took the 49ers to a Superbowl although they did lose. After those five years of success, he began to fall out, his production dropped, and he didn’t look the same. Not to mention he had been taking a knee.

This whole season Kaepernick had been taking a knee during the national anthem. He wanted to protest the recent shootings of Terence Crutcher and Keith Lamont, two black men. The whole season Kaepernick was criticized and booed for his beliefs. Even President Trump said that the people who are taking a knee should leave this country. Kaepernick and others did not stop, they wanted to get their message across. In 2017 Kaepernick was out of the league. It was almost like the NFL had blackballed Kaepernick. He has still not been added by any team yet. There are rumors, but why would he want to go in the same league that blackballed him, also he already got his message out.

Personally, I think that no one has understood his message properly until 2020. This year has been a terrible year, but it is great to see people come out and protest African-American rights. 2020 has made us finally realize why Colin did what he did back in 2016. Colin also brought this issue more into the light by doing this on such a big scale. He single-handedly made people realize these problems that are happening in the United States. He began this protest 4 years ago and now because of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and many more, The fight for racial justice has sprung back stronger than ever. In 2020 it has changed from a hashtag into a massive protest. This is not a new thing. Racial injustice has been a thing for a long time. It is time to finally put an end to this horrible thing.

Colin has impacted the whole world, but we can’t forget what he gave up to make that impact. Colin could have just tried to be a successful football player, but he wanted to make a change no matter the cost. Colin has become a big activist now, fighting for what he believes in. Although Kaepernick was not the first to address racial injustice he has made a massive change. He tried to encourage people to not be scared to say what they believe in. Although Colin will never make the NFL’s Hall of Fame he should be known as one of the best activists.
