Thanksgiving Food Around The World


I personally love Thanksgiving. The food, family, traditions, Thanksgiving looks different in many places around the world. There are many different traditions during the holidays, but today we will talk about thanksgiving. In Jamaica a popular dish is curried goat which is a stew like dish that has goat meat and lots of spices and peppers. It is a healthier option from turkey because goats have less fat. In the Mediterranean they eat a dish called baklava. Baklava is a sweet dessert made out of pastry. The pastry with nuts inside the pasty is soaked in honey. In Cuba they eat rice and beans on Thanksgiving. In Scotland they make Scottish cabbage rolls. Scottish cabbage rolls are hearty and meaty. These rolls are stuffed with ground beef, rice, mushrooms, smothered in a tomato sauce. In France a popular item is butter herb mushrooms. In the Netherlands they have something called asteitje met ragout which is a puff pastry dish with chicken and mushroom gravy. In the Philippines they have something called Christmas cheesecake. Christmas cheesecake is a cheesecake made out of purple yams. Another food from the Philippines is Bibingka. Bibingka is a cake made out of rice flour and coconut milk. Bibingka is said to taste similar to rice pudding. In people with Latinx heritage they eat tacos and burritos. It is so interesting to me to learn about different people, cultures and traditions. I like that people eat things other than turkey, stuffing, and gravy for thanksgiving.
