Klay Thompson suffers season ending Achilles injury

After the Golden State Warriors’ devastating NBA season from last year, five-time all-star and two-time honoree of the all NBA third-team, Klay Thompson, suffers another injury. The basketball player was working out in Southern California until he tore his right Achilles tendon. It is most likely that he will not play the 2020-2021 NBA season.

Last season both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were unable to play because of injuries which caused the Golden State Warriors to finish sixteenth in the Western Conference. Without Thompson, it will be quite hard for the Warriors to win the Championships. However, they still have a chance.

Recently, in the NBA draft, as their second overall pick, they picked James Wiseman. Also, with a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, they received Kelly Oubre Jr. Currently, the Golden States tax bill is at sixty-six million dollars but because of this trade, it will increase up to one-hundred and thirty-four million dollars. According to CBS Sports, “Yes, you’re reading that right: The Warriors’ ownership, at it stands right now, could’ve saved $82 million had they just decided not to use that trade exception, which could’ve been easily rationalized in Thompson’s absence; paying that kind of money for a team that no longer feels like a title contender could reasonably be viewed as borderline crazy.

What will their starting line-up be then? The Warriors’ lineup is probably going to have Stephen Curry as a point guard, Kelly Oubre as shooting guard, Andrew Wiggins as a small forward, Draymond Green as a power forward, and finally the rookie, James Wiseman as the center. If they did have Klay Thompson, their team could have been a third or fourth-place competitor. However, without him, the Warriors are going to need to fight even harder to qualify for the playoffs.
