2020 election

The winner of the giant political race is here! Everyone was wondering for days who would win and the winner was finally announced. Our new president is… Mr. Biden! Mr. Biden is a very kind person with a huge heart. He really understands people and their pain, as he lost his own son. His vice president is Mrs. Harris! It’s so exciting to have not only a woman in the house, but a woman of color. Her mother is an immigrant that was brought here for a better life. She was told America was a place for opportunity. I guess that person must have been right because her daughter is the vice president of the United States! The democrats are back in the house. I want to dig a little deeper into Mr. Biden’s and Mrs. Harris’s speech, because they were both very moving.

Mr Biden said some inspiring things. He made a pledge I think will really help the United States. Here it is. “…I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but unify, who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.” This made me feel safe. That we can get along with each other. Every individual will stand out not by their party, but by their actual true selves. Another thing he said was, “I’ll work with all my heart, with the confidence of the whole people, to win the confidence of all of you. And for that is what America, I believe, is about. It’s about people. And that’s what our administration will be all about. I sought this office to restore the soul of America, to rebuild the backbone of this nation: the middle class. And to make America respected around the world again. And to unite us here at home.” He promised the American citizens that he would help make us great again. I, and everyone else, is stuck hoping Mr. Biden will come through. What do you think? Now, another word by him. “Folks, as I said many times before, I’m Jill’s husband. And I would not be here without her love and tireless support of Jill and my son Hunter, and Ashley, my daughter and all our grandchildren and their spouses and all our family. They’re my heart”. How inspiring is that? He does that for his family. He’s got an amazing supportive family which causes him to support people. He’s very kind and will be an amazing president. And now, something by our new vice president!

Mrs. Harris is the first Black vice President to ever be elected. “…She maybe didn’t quite imagine this moment, But she believed so deeply in an America where a moment like this is possible, and so I am thinking about her and about the generations of women, Black women, Asian, white, Latina, Native American women — who throughout our nation’s history have paved the way for this moment tonight — women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality and liberty and justice for all.”

Mrs. Harris’ mother believed in a nation with equality between colored people. Mrs. Harris represented and reflected on women’s struggles. “To our campaign staff and volunteers, this extraordinary team — thank you for bringing more people than ever before into the democratic process and for making this victory possible.

To the poll workers and election officials across our country who have worked tirelessly to make sure every vote is counted — our nation owes you a debt of gratitude as you have protected the integrity of our democracy. And to the American people who make up our beautiful country — thank you for turning out in record numbers to make your voices heard. I know times have been challenging, especially the last several months. The grief, sorrow, and pain. The worries and the struggles. But we’ve also witnessed your courage, your resilience, and the generosity of your spirit. For four years, you marched and organized for equality and justice, for our lives, and for our planet. And then, you voted. You delivered a clear message. You chose hope, unity, decency, science, and, yes, truth. You chose Joe Biden as the next President of the United States of America. Joe is a healer. A uniter. A tested and steady hand.” Here, Mrs. Harris thanks everyone for helping the election and counting the votes, because the US has a lot of people and counting that many votes is very hard. “A person whose own experience of loss gives him a sense of purpose that will help us, as a nation, reclaim our own sense of purpose.” Mrs. Harris says that Joe Biden’s own losses give him a sense of purpose. Because of this, he will help the rest of America gain our sense of purpose back. Because she is the first black vice president, Mrs. Harris will represent all colored people in America. Racism is nothing to joke about, given the example of George Floyd.

Here’s something about Mr. Trump now. Everyone thinks he’s not very smart and he knows he lost the election. He threatened to leave the country if he didn’t win, and so he’s trying to prove he should have won by making people believe that the votes were rigged and not fair. It’s an awful theory. Because of covid, he’s making up excuses like the voting is rigged or the votes shouldn’t have counted unless they came out and were on election day or no mail in ballots. He’s so intense. He threatened to leave and isn’t going to be much help letting Joe settle in.
