How Dream got so popular so Fast

Dream, a popular Minecraft YouTuber, has 12.1 million subscribers. He got 9 million in 9 months, which is very fast. But how did he grow so fast?

Last year in 2019, Dream only had about 1k subscribers and wasn’t uploading. In July of 2019, he had most of his bad videos private so people couldn’t watch them. This makes it so that people don’t judge you on your old videos. He then made videos on Pewdiepie’s Minecraft world seed, and some of Pewdiepie’s fans watched the videos on the seed (A randomly generated number that determines what your Minecraft world will look like) because they wanted to play on the same world Pewdiepie played in. Once he made a viewer base, he started uploading videos and his viewer base watched them, which made YouTube recommend his videos to more people. He used something called “trend-jacking,” which is making content on popular subjects. Pewdiepie has 100 million subscribers, so some people who search up Pewdiepie will likely get Dream’s videos in their recommended.

After he had a fan base, he uploaded custom-coded Minecraft videos, so they changed the way the Minecraft world works. Some examples are “Minecraft, but a black hole grows every second…” or “Minecraft, but mobs are random sizes…” These videos had the word “Minecraft” at the front of each title, because YouTube prioritizes the front of the title, and because so many people play Minecraft, Dream’s videos would show up when viewers searched up “Minecraft.”
10 months ago, Dream uploaded a video called “Beating Minecraft, but my friend tries to stop me.” The idea was that Dream would try to speedrun and beat Minecraft, but his friend tries to stop him before Dream kills the last boss. The hunter gets a tracker that tells Dream’s direction and infinite respawns. This series was called Minecraft Manhunt, and it completely took off on Dream’s channels. It was an original idea and viewers like Dream and his friend (Georgenotfound) playing together. Later on, he started upping the challenge, adding 2 hunters, and 3, and eventually 4. He often played with GeorgeNotFound, SapNap, and BadBoyHalo, who are other Minecraft YouTubers that he helped grow.

After the first manhunt video, all Dream had to do was to upload more videos, pulling in millions of views with each one. Dream has become one of the fastest growing channels in YouTube history.
