LGBTQ+ Panic defense

What is the LGBTQ+ panic defense, let’s talk about it. Not many people know about this but it is a legal jury defense strategy which the jury can ask about someone’s sexuality and if they are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, they are given justification for the violence towards them because they make people “`uncomfortable”. It’s still legal in 40 states across the U.S. It is illegal in only 10 states which is not okay and we can let the government officials do this for any longer. People part of the LGBTQ+ community have been discriminated against for a very long time and the time has come for us to put a stop to this. With only California, Nevada, Washington, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Maine, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut making this illegal lots of people that are part of the LGBTQ+ community are prone to become victims of the LGBTQ+ panic defense. Why should this be illegal in more states? With the many people living in the U.S. many of which are part of the LGBTQ+ community, these people are reprimanded for who they love. If more states don’t make the LGBTQ+ panic defense illegal, more people of the LGBTQ+ community will fall victim. As our country grows, our laws should too. We need more rights for people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community because more and more people are faced with violence due to the LGBTQ+ panic defense. There are many ways to help make this illegal in

more states across America, sign petitions, vote by Nov 3rd, talk to mayors/governors by email or the post, protest and make sure people know what is going on in 2020. We need to get the word out as soon as we can and get to making the world a better place. Day by day, night by night, we can all make a difference. Change starts with you.
