The Bay Area fires started on August 16 on Sunday, where lightning struck and woke the people up early in the morning. The lightning also caused California’s biggest fire yet, with over 3.4 million acres burned. The last record was 1.9 million acres, and now there’s a new record. The fires are still burning and the smoke forces everyone to stay inside. There isn’t as much smoke as a week ago, but the fires are still burning and have even spread to Oregon. The closest fire to  Foster City is the Woodward fire, which is 100% contained. There have been 30 deaths from the fire.
