The American National Basketball Association (NBA), was established in 1946. Basketball, as it is called today, was created by Dr. James Naismith in December of 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The game was originally played with a soccer ball, peach baskets, and nine players on each side. James Naismith was assigned the task to prepare a new indoor sport, so he created a game by hanging two buckets on tall beams and then split his class into 2 teams 18 players in total, and handed over a ball to them.

Now the game is played with a basketball, two hoops on each side of the court, referees, a big stadium with over 20,000 seats for people to watch the game, and 2 teams of 12 but only 5 players from each team can play at a time (so 10 on the court at all times). Players are also being paid millions, sometimes even more. Each player signs a contract with a team and determines if they want to stay on that team for one year, two years, or many more years. NBA teams have their own planes to travel around the world to go to different games around the world. Teams travel on an average of 3 games a week. The game became established fairly quickly and grew very popular as the 20th century progressed, first in America and then in other parts of the world. The game eventually grew into a multi billion-dollar enterprise by the end of the century, and basketball became an integral part of American culture. The two teams try to score by shooting a ball through a hoop elevated 10 feet above the ground. The ongoing game today is now played but with better, cameras, for both reviewing plays and press, many courts, stadiums, and so much more. The game of basketball has changed so much over time and who knows what people in the association would try to change or add next.
