  1. Axolotl

This creature is also known as the Mexican Walking Fish. Unlike most amphibians, this one does not go into metamorphosis. It remains aquatic and gilled. These strange, lizard-like creatures are frequently used in research by scientists because of their ability to regenerate limbs.

These strange creatures have translucent abdominal skin. In some cases, you can see their heart, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and if it is a female, eggs. This feature is helpful when escaping predators and acts as a form of camouflage.

This South American freshwater turtle has a head that looks like dead leaves and who’s shell looks like bark. This prickly looking turtle can camouflage easily into the murky bottoms of the Amazons streams and lakes.

The Cormorant is a strange looking bird with brown and black feathers and glowing turquoise eyes. Their wings are about ⅓ the size what they need to fly, however they are awesome swimmers. These flightless Cormorants can even outrun a sea lion. These rare creatures dive to the bottom of the ocean to feed on fish, octopus, and even eels.

This creature is a cross between a pig, a donkey, and a rhinoceros. This cow-sized mammal is an endangered specie in Central and South America. These strange creatures resemble the ancestors of horses and rhinos. They have snouts that are long and resemble a shortened elephant trunk. This shy creature is becoming endangered due to habitat destruction and climate change.

This gigantic creature has a leg span of 13 feet and an average weight of 40 pounds. The Japanese Spider Crab can also live up to 100 years, the longest life span of any crab. However, these creatures have weak legs, even with their impressive leg length. Smaller and younger crabs decorate their shells with objects such as kelp for camouflage. This helps them survive predation.

The zebra duiker is a deerlike creature with strange stripes on its back. This animal is closely related to the extinct Tasmanian tiger, another strange creature. The zebra duiker are found only in the rainforests of West Africa. It eats grass, leaves, buds, shoots, and the droppings of other animals. This territorial creatures is generally quiet, but will use its horns to defend its territory.

  1. Maned Wolf

This strange creature, although called a wolf, resembles more of a fox. With a thick red coat and long black legs, this animal has adapted to live in high grass savannas. However, the maned wolf is not actually a fox, or even a wolf. This animal is actually the only member of its genus, Chrysocyon. This creature does not howl like a wolf, but emits loud barks to communicate with its mate. This animal is an omnivore. It eats fruits and vegetables such as lobeira. It also uses its long legs to catch birds and insects, and its large ears to listen for prey in the tall grass.
